Robert Goodwin is the inventor and producer of the patented PlyFASTnerTM window and door protection system. This system, designed to provide hurricane protection, currently sells for approximately half the price of other comparable products on the market. Mr. Goodwin first created the PlyFASTnerTM six years ago, in response to a perceived need for affordable, “user-friendly” hurricane protection products. Since then, the South Carolina Building Code has been revised to require the protection of windows in homes located in high wind areas. Already patented, the PlyFASTnerTM is in the process of being approved by the Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI). Once the system has been approved, it will be cited by name in the International Residential Code, the book of building codes used by all contractors.

Mr. Goodwin began his relationship with the LDC in 2000, when he received an SBA Microloan to be used for product development and market research. The endeavor has been so successful that Mr. Goodwin is currently in the process of acquiring funding to be used for larger scale commercial production of the PlyFASTnerTM. The LDC is again offering assistance, in the form of an RLF loan. Having received a letter of commitment from the LDC for half of the needed funds, Mr. Goodwin is negotiating a source for the remainder of the funds.
